I will give you an example if you are grown up with only boys upto till age you have no seen any other girl except your family. Suddenly if you were placed at the middle of some girls with good dress then they will attract you. This is not done so and you don't feel any thing bad even though if you saw any beautiful girl with full dress.

I was wondering how many times a week can I steam my face? Or how many times I can exfoliate my face a week?

I have normal to oily skin, and tend to break out now and then.

I have the same combo skin as you and I usually only exfoliate my face once a week. I never steam my face though, even though I probably should. I just wash my face at least twice a day with warm water and Neutragena Rapid Clear face wash. It works great for me!

Average weight. Curves in all the right places. Skinny round the middle... but small chest lol

I'm 18... medium length dark brown hair... side fringe... green eyes... pale to olive skin tone

Tend to wear any colour except very very light ones cause they wash me out %26amp; NEVER pink or red!

I would say my style is kinda preppy/indie with my own twist. I like abercrombie %26amp; topshop %26amp; h%26amp;m for clothes.

If i go every day...? I have fair skin. I tend to freckle and tan. i have a picnic to go to for my reunion and a friend told me that i have really white legs. I'm afraid to get the mystic because it shows up really dark on me and it looks unatural on the feet... I have a great pair of flip flops that I am wearing... so I don't want my feet to look stained(this happened to me the last time.

i think you probably would get tanner because my friend did that and it worked pretty quick..

if youre doubting it you could try jergens natural glow..i used it before and it worked really good :) personally i dont think it looked fake at all

Reply:I would be careful about going every day since you are fair. If you go evey other day or even every couple of days and build up your time in the tanning bed you should have a nice light tan that looks natural by the time you go.
Reply:Of course you do! But let me warn you: Do not, i repeat do NOT get tanner using those tanning beds %26amp;the UV lights. Not only is that light harsher than the sun, it can leave you with even MORE freckles and you have a greater risk of getting skin cancer because of the UVA rays that they emit. The best and SAFEST way for you to get a medium tan are those spray on ones, or you can use a self tanner if you'd like. If you don't want to get too bronze, just mix the self tanner with your regular moisturizer and apply everyday, but just be sure that your skin is well exfoliated so that the color goes on evenly. Whatever you use or do to get that nice glow, be sure to wear sunscreen when outdoors everytime, since you have fair skin. Hope everything goes well!
Reply:This is a question that only you can answer. Everyone's skin is different, and you know your own skin better than anyone. If it were me, I could do it in two days. If it were my manager, he could never get a tan. Just be careful as the obvious health risks of attempting to tan too quickly. I suggest you attempt to tan, but if it's just not happening, don't worry about it, the fact that you care what you look like puts you a step ahead of half of the people that will probably show up to your reunion (or at least if you are referring to a school-related event).
Reply:I'd strongly recommend not trying something new this close to what sounds to be like an important event to you! The risk of having a tanning mishap is pretty high, especially since you are fair and freckly. If you are super uncomfortable with your paleness, wear something to cover your legs a bit more. Think about it though, if you get burned or get a weird or bad result, there's not so much you can do about that and you'd go to your reunion with a bigger problem than paleish legs!

Be your naturally beautiful self, embrace your paleness, or draw attention to the aspect of your physique you feel is hot...that'll draw attention away from your legs. Get a great pedicure, then the focus can be on your fab flip flops and lovely toes and not on your legs. Honestly, probably no one besides you is going to notice their hue!

The problem ...

Some years ago I noticed a bunch of small bumps on my penis, and i freaked out about it and got it checked out. Well it turns out that it is something called "Fordyce Spots" ... totally harmless, not a problem in any way. they are just oil glands under the skin which tend to become bumps on some people, and the doctor said that it is totally common in men and it is nothing to be concerned of

Now here is my problem ... Even though it is nothing, it is still kinda unsightly in my opinion. I have always been self-conscious of that part of my body. It has not stopped me from having sex, but I have never let a girl go down on me because i am afraid that she will think it's weird or that i have some disease or something.

My question is: Is this common? Have you ever run into this at all? Did it affect anything? How do i make a girl comfortable with that? .... I am really tired of being uncomfortable about it haha, so please do tell your thoughts, one way or another.

Thank God someone else has this same problem. I have em too and have had them since i was thirteen. I went and got it checked out and the doctor said it was a common thing in men. How come we never learned about this in school? None of my friends have ever talked about this!It seems like alot of girls dont even know what the hell they are. Reply:Be upfront with a girl. Don't have it be some big suprise. Tell them exactly what you have said here, and say that it's nothing to do with anything that could harm their mouth, or any sort of STD. All you can do is hope that it doesn't bother a girl and she doesn't care.

Try this: mix 2 ounces of witch hazel (you can get it in drug stores) with 10 drops of lemon juice (either fresh squeezed or from a bottle), and use it as a toner to control oil. It's really nice if you keep it in the fridge, especially in the summer. For pimples, try just dabbing a little bit of lemon juice on the pimples before bed every night.

Reply:Be careful of touching your face with dirty fingers, or unsanitary makeup applicators, it spreads the bacteria, and causes more breakouts. Also, keep makeup to a minimum, and check to be sure you are using a WATER BASED makeup, and avoid anything with mineral oil or petrolatum, as these ingredients will clog your pores.

Use a mild cleanser or polish to wash at night (especially to remove makeup) and to gently exfoliate. Use a mild glycerine based soap or a mild cleanser in the morning (glycerine is going to rinse clean away and not clog pores). Washing with warm (not quite hot) water will open your pores up and help clean them out. Follow up with an alcohol free astringent witch hazel is excellent, and it's a natural product.

Also, moisturize, morning %26amp; evening, and use one that does not contain mineral oil or petrolatum, to prevent clogging pores. Moisturizing adds back nutrients to your skin, to help keep it from over-reacting to drying conditions, and producing too much oil. Remember to moisturize down your neck, too.

Alcohol, mineral oil, and petrolatum are ingredients you should avoid in any facial product.

Here is what I use: Jordan Essentials Body %26amp; Face Spa Polish for gentle exfoliation, and for removing makeup %26amp; dirt, this is my night wash. I use the Jordan Essentials Oatmeal Milk %26amp; Honey Glycerine Bar Soap in the morning, and any other time during the day I need to feel clean. It's PH ballanced, so won't dry your skin out. I use the Jordan Essentials Daily Facial Moisturizer with Soy morning %26amp; evening. All of these products are available on my website, and may seem expensive, but they are VERY high quality, so just a little dab goes a long ways! Typically my spa polish will last over six months, the facial mositurizer almost a year, and the OMH bar soap about six months, too. Currently my 12 year old son is also using the products, since he has recently started breaking out, too. I wouldn't sell something I didn't believe in, and these products work great for me %26amp; my family. Witch Hazel I buy over the counter at Walmart. :)
Reply:Wash your face with a pure and natural soap on days of a break out use an acne cleaner -

A toner is important - you can make your own by buying a spray bottle and adding witch hazel to it. Just spritz it on and let air dry.

Also exfoliate twice a week - use pure and natural types.

And once a week do a mask - one for oily skin.

This will help pull the dirt through your pores and have cell turn over.

Another treat is to heat a clean wet wash cloth (in micro for extra warmth) and place it on your face then wash it.

Apply mask -

I suggest Arbonne to anyone whose serious about their skin. The products are pure and natural which is important.

Never use a mineral oil based product on you or your face it is cheap and hardens your skin.

Reply:Hi, I have combination skin (oily in the "T" zone and dry in other places). I have used just about every facial product available in the drug store as well as Proactive and here is what I have learned aside from the importance of keeping your face cleansed:

1. Monitor your diet. Determine if chocolate or other sweets cause you to break out; perhaps keep a journal of your breakouts and take note of different life changes and factors that might've caused the break out. Were you stressed during a particular breakout? Were you eating oily foods excessively etc.?

2. Less is more. Using the least amount of chemicals on your face as possible is sometimes better. Toners, masks, and scrubs are not for everyone because we all have different skin types, so what might work for your friends may not work for you. However, if you would like to try one of these, gradually add one at a time to your facial cleansing routine, that way you can determine what is working and what isn't. And look for products that are noncomedogenic and hypoallergenic if possible to avoid allergic reactions.

3. If you have tried the ideas above and nothing seems to work, then see a dermatologist who can help you better assess your condition and what you can do to improve it.

I have found that the Body Shop's Tea Tree facial cleanser works for my oily T-zone and that their Vitamin E moisturizer works best on the dry sections of my face. What's good about the Body Shop is you can get a sample of their products to try at home before you purchase them; so maybe you should check them out. depends on how much time you have.

if you have time to lie out in the sun, then start with a good SPF for you.

i live in SC and i ten well and i've started the summer with 8 or 15!! so, if you are really fair skinned, then start off with a 15 or 25. keep it on and you will start to get some color. the next time, hopefully before you lose the first attempt's progress, keep on the 15. you should get a bit more color.

once you start to get golden glow, then reduce to an 8 or so and just keep going!

be sure to monitor yourself when you are outside...if you start to redden, then get a higher SPF and don't stay out long!

OR if you don't have a bunch of time to spend out in the free sun, then you can do tanning beds.

first time, find a 20 minute bed and go in for about 8 minutes (unless they have brand new bulbs, then cut it to about 5 or 6 minutes). about 2 days later go again and base your time on the result from your first visit. if you got some color and didn't burn, then up it 1 or 2 minutes. if you burned then, wait until the burn dies down and go for the same time or 1 or 2 minutes less.

just keep increasing your time the darker you get! i wouldn't reccommend a stand-up booth right away, stick to beds for now. stand ups are really intense.

don't wear sunscreen in tanning beds, either. talk to them about a tanning lotion that would work well for you...maybe something with a bronzer to help get the "golden" effect. you might want to steer clear of "tingle" lotions right now.

"cooling" lotions may be nice for you, but they will disguise your dicomfort if you are burning, so don't use them until you are comfortable in the beds.

OR you could go mystic! instead of doing the self-tanning at home, just go to a spray tan booth, or get someone to airbrush you!

i have not done the spray tan booth or the airbrush, but friends have and they love it!!

Reply:No, you cannot. It is true that by repeatedly exposing yourself to gradually longer times in the sun, you will get a little bit tan (but not a very satisfying color). But in the process you are greatly increasing your risk of getting skin cancer and you will have withered, wrinkled skin when you are older.

Fake tan:

Have a shower and exfoliate all over. dry yourself off and moisturize. then you can apply fake tan. takes a little practice to apply but well worth it.
Reply:Try the new lotions w/ self tanner in them. They allow the color to build gradually w/out the orangey look. They also come in formulas made just for light complexions. Fair skin burns so easily, so sun tanning and tanning beds are too dangerous to use.

Bare Minerals Foundation?

I keep reading contrasting opinions of this foundation. I want to try it if it's worth the money. I have light-beige skin. I tend to get dark cirlces under my eyes and only get occasional breakouts. My skin is a little on the dry side. Any thoughts??

Its not worth the money at all. If you want to see what its like, go out and buy a cheap brand of loose powder from covergirl or maybelline and put it on with a brush. You get exactly the same coverage - not much.

If you need a lot of coverage, buy both the foundation (put on lightly for a primer) and "Bisque", which you can use as a more heavy-duty concealer. Mineral Veil is used to reduce shininess. They key here is to put on just a little. People think it doesn't give them a lot of coverage b/c you don't SEE the makeup - it just looks like you have clear, even skin.

in this case i think you must use the natural therapy coz chemical does good but also does bad to the skin this doesnt appear in case of normal skin but your s is a sensitive one you have to be extra careful..

use mild cleanser with milk condition

you can apply fresh milk or milk cream with bit of turmeric which soothes the skin and removes red marks and gives a glow

have bath with lukewarm or cold water will help avoid any rashes or heat

you can apply rosewater before going to sleep or before having bath

dont use too many different cream or hard moisturiser which may not suit your skin type

you can also apply egg white if your skin is dry.... dont worry i know what you are thinking egg white has no smell. it wont give you a bad smell it soothes the skin and gives a glow dont leave it on skin for a long while just for 15 -20minutes

with my personal experiance..shaving is terrible and makes hair come back thicker and darker and creams are irritable on my skin (because its quite sensitive) even creams for sensitive skin dont tend to work..waxing also isnt my thing and i dont wanna get lazer....n im very self-concious !

I really don't know. All people are different. I am also very self-concoius. I just shave every-other day!

Some waxes really are not that bad plus when you've done it enough your skin will get used to it and your hair will get finer and eventally never grow back in.

Reply:of course its normal but it wont go away itself if it did i would be the happiest person in the world. your best bet is to get it waxed i know you said your not a fan of waxing but the hair wont grow back for up to 3-4 weeks and apparently it makes the hair grow back finer i dont believe that but im going to get my first brazillian wax 2morow and im a bit scared but i think it will be worth it to put up with a little bit of pain other things i have tried like shaving or those hair removal cremes are crap and get really itchy when the hair grows back. but if you havent got the guts to let a proffessional do your waxing then be very careful doing it yourself as you need a special kind of wax for that area trust me dont try it with normal wax OUCH!!! hope that helps

Reply:I had razor burn but then started using a men's razor. Men's razors are more sensitive because they use it on their face, and they get my legs alot smoother than womens' razors.

I live in a warm climate and I would like to get a pedicure I have gotten them in past. My question is what colors should I wear on my toes I have fair skin and tend to do well with warm colors. My nails are short and nailbeds small what is a good color to paint them to make them look nice and proper but without adding gaudy attnetion to my nails. My toes are average not the best looking toes but not the worst looking either. I have brown hair with auburn highlights hazel eyes and fair light skin. what colors would you suggest for the nails and the toes? Thanks for your answers. e4g

I would suggest the natural looking French Manicure colors (either the beige or pink), without the white tips. Since your nails are shorter this skin colored paints would help trick the eye into seeing something longer, as apposed to a contracting color, which would make the difference more noticeable.
Reply:I would recommend a very light shade of pink. Pink goes very well with fair skin. I find that reds tend to stand out too much.

well i want to start wearing makeup before school starts...last school year i would wear little or no makeup....basically my question is what makeup is best for oily skin....i tend to have more oil in the t-zone(nose,chin, forhead) and give me some brands and tips on how to wear makeup but still look natural...btw im 17 i have brown eyes fair skin and dark brown close to black hair...here is a pic of me in my myspace..

I'm the EXACT SAME WAY.

Okay.

So before I put on my makeup, I use Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil-Controlling Astringent.

IT WORKS WONDERS.

Kay. So after I do that, I put on foundation. I use the L'oreal Dream Matte Mousse. I like that kind the best.

Then I put on a coral colored blush. Just put it on the apples of your cheeks. (Make sure to blend it well)

Then I put on my mascara. I use three coats of Great Lash Mascara in "Blackest Black"

ONLY PUT IT ON YOUR TOP LASHES.

Then I put on my eyeshadow. I like to use a subtle gold. I use a little brush and I sweep it all over my eye from my lash line up to my brow. Then I use a copper colored eyeshadow in the crease. I just use a little there.

Then my eyeliner.

I use Almay and it's the kind in the plastic tube. The shade is called "Black Pearl"

Anyway. So I don't use that much eyeliner. I just put a thin line right by my lash line. Same with the top.

Then I use just a dab of sheer lip gloss, then I'm done.

It sounds complicated, but it only takes me five minutes to do!

Reply:Personally I would not use 2 in 1 products, the best for your skin is The Body Shops Seaweed products, especially to balance T-Zone and to combat blemishes, I would stick with cleanse, tone and moisturise 3 different products.

The Body Shop use Irish seaweed, to help control shine and is oil free. Try the purifying facial wash, soap free, and see the difference.

I'm a red head with pale sensitive skin. I'm looking for a great %26amp; inexpensive moisturizer that will work with my skin. Most tend to make me break out %26amp; being pale my breakouts end up looking like red blotches. I also at times just get red inflamed areas, mostly around the sides of my nose. It was suggested I try Aveeno moisturizer for the face (works well on my body) but at $21 %26amp; up that's out of my budget.

Can anyone suggest something that I should try? I forgot to add I have a blended skin type, at times it can be oily but I also get little patches they are dry.

Grr I hate my skin so much..if it wasnt for my skin I would proabably be 100% happy!

I have really oily skin and tend to get breakouts alot of the time. I use proactiv at the moment but I have been noticing how dry my skin is since using it which has been about 7 months. It has worked a bit but my skin hasnt cleared up totally and I want something that will. Some people have suggested using Arbonne and then others have said Dermalogica. Do I stick with Proactiv? Can someone please give me some reviews or opinions on these please. I just want nice glowing skin! Thanks.

Reply:Hmm...has your face gotten a lot better (even though it's no cleared up all the way?? Because usually acne can't ever be completely cured. It just depends on how well the proactiv is working, althought dry skin is uncomfortable and also not healthy, so it's just a decision you have to make! For me, exfoliating my face keeps it clear (along with proactiv...so far....) I exfoliate it about every other day (more than what most people do but it works for me). ALSOOO....you can go on birth control which generally improves acne.

Sometimes a little tanning bed can do some good. I know people SCORN you for doing it, but I admit to doing it for like 10 minutes once a week just to keep my face more clear. It's up to you!
Reply:Proactiv worked much better than the other two for me.

Are you following the entire routine with the Proactiv and using the toner and lotion? The lotion should keep you skn from drying out too much. My skin has been clear for over a year with Proactiv, but you have to follow the instructions exactly as directed, don't skip any steps. The Arbonne especially didn't work well for me, I actually think it made my skin worse!

I'm thinking about buying this product but before I'd really like some advice from users.

I took Accutane three times. After discontinuing the pills the first two times, my acne did come back. But the third time I saw better results. I was acne free for at least 8 months after the pills finished. Since April up until now I break out around my time of month. Its not really bad break outs, just a few on my forehead and cheeks. They tend to clear up after two weeks and for two weeks I have super clear skin and then the cycle starts all over.

The acne isn't as bad as it used to be but since i have really light skin it tends to show and its also really awkward having good skin for two weeks followed by bad skin for two weeks. The bad days aren't too bad, some months are better then others.

I want to give Proactive a try. I have fairly oily skin. I have no problem buying the product, money is really not an issue. I don't mind using it life long as long as it works!

Is proactive right for me?

Some of my tips:

Wash your face twice daily with Clean %26amp; Clear foaming cleanser for Sensitive Skin (in a clear and purple pump-top bottle). I usually get it at Target. It is gentle, refreshing, and inexspensive. Try using a gentle wash cloth once every other day to help remove the dead skin cells!

They also have a cleanser specifically for oily skin which is probably just as good....But because my skin is very sensitive I stick with the more gentle stuff!

Clean %26amp; Clear also has some great topical medications....

Try something with benzoyl peroxide.....It isn't as drying as sacilic acid! Apply before bed time only!

You can also dilute Sea Salt (not table salt) in warm water and use it to treat bad areas of a breakout!

Change your pillow case every few days

Keep hands off of your face and let your skin have a break from foundation and conceler at least one day a week!

Drink lots of water to flush out toxins and try to eat healthy.

I've heard really good things about ProActive and used to use it myself but it can be a bit picey and completely dries out your skin for the first few weeks!

Bare Minerals Eyeshadows?

I absolutely adore the line of foundation and face colors by Bare Minerals, and was anxious to try their eyeshadow when I went to Sephora. I found a beautifully pigmented and sparkly purple that looked amazing with my green eyes, but was shocked when it came off within a half hour! Their other makeup lasts forever on me, and I've never had problems with my Stila shadows coming off. I'm fifteen and have some acne, but my skin tends to be dry. Would using a primer help? What about liquid concealer? What have been your experiances good/bad and what do you recommend?

Bare Minerals Eyeshadows?
I've been using their shadows for about 6 months, and never had a problem with them coming off, but I never put them on my bare lids. I use the concealor brush that comes in the stater kit, and applied the foudation to my lids. I would then Dust just a bit of mineral veil over my eyes with the Flawless application brush. Then I would put on the shadows (with the wet/dry shadow brush) and they would stay several hours.

Now I use Urban Decay's eyeshadow primer. I comes in a cute purple genie bottle. The applicator if similiar to that of lip gloss, I just dot a bit over my lid and blend in, then let it dry. After that I am able to apply the eyeshadow (no foundation or mineral veil this time). I can layer 3 or 4 colors over each other with great results. No creasing, fading, etc. try this if the foundation method doesn't work.

Is the color you got flamenco? It's a lovely purple color. My eyes change between blue and green and the flamenco makes the green really pop (I'm fair skinned). I also got the meet the browns eyeshadow kit, which makes the blue really stand out. Good luck!
Reply:They sell eyeshadow bases and primers at any supermarket or beauty supply store. Put this on before applying your eyeshadow and it should last all day.

If you want a more dramatic and metallic look, wet your brush before dipping it into the Bare Escentual eyeshadow and applying... it creates a cream-eyeshadow and gives vibrant color!

A cheaper alternative is to buy some NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils. The cheapest I've found them on-line $3 each:

Color your lid with the pencil - it's a very creamy consistency.

Then apply your shadow on top. I've used the NYX pencils and either some Hot Topic eye shadow or NYX Ultra Pearl Mania shadow - and it's lasted all day and all night. I've even taken a long nap with the make-up on %26amp; it hasn't budged at all! (Usually it's all over the pillowcase or something!) LOL

I also used Bare Minerals shadows - I definitely need a base coat to make them stick. Otherwise they vanish in no time at all!

As long as you have a light coating of some type of creamy/sticky base on your lid - your shadow should stick %26amp; stay put!

Definitely get the NYX shadow pencils! Black is always killer for a base-coat - makes your eye shadow colors really stand out.

You can also use MAC shadesticks, paint pots or even their fluidline as a base coat (but they are more expensive!)

Why does my eyeliner always smudge or wear off?

My eye makeup always comes off and my eyeliner always seems to start smudging when I wear it on the bottom. Is there a trick to getting it to stay better? I put it right on the edge of my lower lid and I DO NOT use liquid. My skin tends to be more on the oily side, maybe this has something to do with it?

Put translucent eye shadow on your lids before applying your eye liner. You could also once and a while stick the pencil in the freezer for five minutes to freshen it up.
Reply:Try using a dab of foundation on your lids before applying eyeliner. It will give it something to "hold" on to for most of the day. It smudges off due to the oils on your skin etc.
Reply:Before applying your eyeliner, try using a make-up brush and some face powder and lightly dust over your eyes (when close, lol!) paying particular attention to below your eyes. After you have applied your eyeliner, go over the area again with another little dusting of powder and this will help 'set' the eyeliner. It is definately caused by your oily skin, I had the same problem.

about your "oily skin"..i think,its only a matter of controlling it.in all fairness,'oily skin' may be a plus to us,women in a sense that it lessens the chance of early wrinkle(and crow's feet) appearance since these areas are well-moisturized.you just have to wash it more often (with non-comedogenic products; eg. cetaphil) either with soap and water or clean cotton,as we all know that bacterias most likely reproduce 10x faster on moist. during parties,quit dabbing piles and piles of powder without patting 'greasy areas' with smooth cloth or tissue.you don't wanna look cake-y!

Reply:hmm.. i dont know what is causing this, but i would try sweeping a translucent powder over your eyes first like somebody said. then, buy a water-proof eyeliner. Unstoppable by Maybelline is greaaat, its water-proof and smudge-proof, so it stays on really nicely throughout the day. i've been using it for two years and i lovee it, so you should definately give it a try. good luck!

Made from molasses(the end result of sugar cane, after the sugar is taken out), rum is a pure, clear, booze, and if you drink Bacardi or better, your hangovers will be next to nothing. I suggest Bacardi and OJ, or Bacardi and lemonade. Bacardi and cola might cause a worse hangover due to caffiene, and fructose. Stick to 100% fruit juices. The vitamin C is a bonus!
Reply:Believe it or not, most alcohols have nothing to do with wheat. Even beer is made with only barley and rice. If your skin is breaking out after drinking it isn't likely to have been because of your wheat allergy.

Most alcohols are distilled in such a way that any wheat or gluten is no longer active. THe exception would be some flavored liquors, those with added colorings, and such. But most clear alcohols and well as most colored ones (tequila, for example) are GF.

I have tried Bare Minerals Foundation, and I did not like it as much as regular liquid foundation. My skin tends to get oily, and Bare Minerals Foundation didn't seem to control the oil as well as my liquid foundation. I was wondering, however, if Bare Minerals Mineral Veil would work with setting my liquid foundation...you know, using it as a powder just to set my makeup. Has anyone ever tried this? Any advice would be great! Thank you!

try "primetime" primer by barevitamins to absorb excess oil, it is formulated to work with the bare minerals foundation. put on mineral veil first, then foundation, finish with mineral veil. give the bare minerals foundation (used this way) another chance, your skin will look better, and improve with time, liquid foundation aggravates oily skin %26amp; acne. it defies the purpose of pure mineral make-up, when mixed with other liquid foundation, you are doing yourself a disservice.

The directions in the guide says to shave before a shower because the "skin tends to swell after a shower," but I don't know whether I should follow that or shave after a shower. Keep in mind this is an electric shaver.

I usually shave before a shower because it is really hard to shave afterward because your skin is all wet. however, once i forgot and had to shave afterward, all i did was dry my face completely and it went okay.

So to answer your question. Either was fine for me but if you decide to do it after you shower, just dry up and it should be fine.

I just recently started having sex, so I went on Orthotricyclen, which proved effective, but I had some terrible side effects from it. I started having anxiety attacks every day, hyperventilating, ADD, depression, mood swings, etc. My boyfriend found this very hard to handle, and so we've been having a lot of issues concerning that, so I switched to orthotricyclen low, which has a lower dosage of estrogen in it. It helped a little with the anxiety, but not much. I stopped birth control all together, and my anxiety and depression and all that has gone away completely. I talked to my physician and she said that I just have a strange reaction to hormones, but now she wants to try the depoprovera shot, and I'm hesitant to try that, since if it does affect me the same way, then I will be anxious and miserable for 3 months, instead of being able to stop whenever I want. I can't use condoms because my skin tends to break out and it hurts. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do

I think that you should try the Evra Patch or the Nuvaring. I love them both. I used the Evra patch and felt no side effects at all. The only problem I had was that it started marking my skin where I put it on. I am now on the Nuvaring and I like it very much. I also heard the Today Sponge is also a good method of B/C. As far as condoms go, maybe you have a latex allergy and should try latex-free ones. I have used them because I am allergic to latex also. They are more expensive though.

Reply:You may want to see a different doctor. There are NUMEROUS birth control pills out there. It is a matter of finding the one that is right for you. Another option is the Nuva Ring. Men can't feel it and neither can you. I had to go on bc pills in high school for some health problems and it took about 6 different pills to find the right one. Good Luck! It is ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. Please do not have unprotected sex.
Reply:Well, anxiety can bring on all of the other symptoms you're talking about, and simply switching to a different pill won't just make those feelings disappear for you. I had the same problems, and personally, getting off of all that made my body feel better. Ask the docs what alternatives you'd have to the latex condom and use a spermicide w/it. Since all of our bodies are so different, it really is a hit and miss. Have the doctors actually found you allergic to the latex in condoms? But you should look into getting checked.

A study was done about 30 months ago by an American proffessor and he found estrogen cream was the most effective moisturiser and skin tightener especially for older people.

In Australia only females can get it on a prescription so I'm not sure about overseas. As it is prescribed for a vagina and a male usually does not have one haha....

Failing getting your hands on this cream a good vitamin e and vitamin b moisturiser would be the closest you can do. BUT once agian the vitamin creams on the free market are not that great and the best ones are those by script.

What am I doing wrong with my Bare Minerals?

I recently got the starter kit for Bare Minerals, plus the get started eyes kit. I love the way it looks but I feel it doesn't last for longer than 4 hours. Am I doing something wrong? I am not wearing lotion underneath, not sure if that has anything to do with it. My skin tends to be a bit on the oily side, so perhaps that has something to do with it too. I've only had it for about a week so I'm still "learning" how to use it, does anyone have any tips on making it stay on longer? I had a make-up artist use BM on me one time and it was gorgeous and stayed on all day long so I'm thinking it's me. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!!!

you could use clean and clear oil absorbing sheets first... followed by a moisturizer... wait to make sure the moisturizer is dry and has been absorbed into your skin before applying your bare minerals... another thing that might help is to make sure you use the mineral veil afterwards... that keeps the make up on longer too...

Reply:Yes, you need to moisturize before applying BM because it's a powder base and tends to absorb moisture. The lotion that comes with it works well, but if you have oily skin, you can use whatever type of moisturizer that works for your skin type. Also, be sure to use the mineral veil as it "sets" the finish. It takes a while to get the hang of it with using this stuff, but I love it and it lasts quite a long time ( 1 jar = 6 months of use). You can also check out their website for more tips on cosmetic "preps" like lotions, primers and bases. Good luck with it!
Reply:Before applying your BM, be sure to use a moisturize. If you have oily skin use an oil free moisturizer. Then, you can use a foundation primer. They sell them at drug stores or you can get the one that BM sells, its called Prime Time. I use it and love it!!! You put it on and it smoothes your skin to get it ready for the BM. Give it a try. I do make some touch ups to my face during the day as well.,

Reply:My skin also tends to get dry and flacky, but since i use pure coconut milk moisturizer from inecto, my skin gets better and smoother.Anyway, i also choose this product because it is very affordable, i'm in netherlands and it costs me around 3.75 Euros .By the way It's not a big brand, so if you couldn't find it, just try to find something with coconut milk.. i think coconut milk helps a lot for us, who have dry skin.

One thing you need to know, what's working for me maybe won't work for you, so it's also depends on your skin reaction but i hope coconut milk moisturizer will work for you!

Reply:The thing with moisturizers is that it seems to be different for everyone in finding that perfect fit....it's almost like finding that perfect bra...it's an elusive little buggar!!! LOL! I get flaky skin after showers too and I have found that I need to exfoliate once a week in order for the moisturizers to work properly. I have been using Dove Pro Age and it seems to work the best...my second favorite is L'Oreal.
Reply:I've been using neutrogena for years; everyday. If you have a decent brand of moisturizer; you will get good results if you use it consistently everyday. I use it under my make-up and at night after I clean my face. Being out in a lot of cold and/or windy weather doesn't help.

my pores look huge to me, does anybody have any good techniques or (hopefully) cheap and effective products?

my skin tends to be a bit sensitive (i.e. i can't use mary kay-it's too abrasive)

i like products such as neutrogena (which can also be a bit harsh), clinque, lancome, estee lauder, perscriptives, etc.

Any knowledge on pore reduction?
If you cant use mary kay because its abrasive you were probably using our Timewise 3 in 1 cleanser. Try our classic basic line its great for sensitive skin and the exfoliating step is separate. This way if that is too much for your skin you can simply skip it or do it once a week instead of every day.

Go to an Origins counter and ask for their oily skin products. There is a cleanser called Get Down that also does wonders as a mask. Also, get a Refined Oil toner, which is perfect for oily skin and makes it much more comfortable. At nights, try using Dr. Weil's Mushroom Serum. This will keep your skin balanced and free of problems.

I usually have a decently clean face. I used proactive and have few pimples but it dried out my face. so I stopped it. Now I use neutrogena for acne but I have black/whitehead all over my cheek and forehead and some pimples too. I have combination skin..tends to get oily. I don't use make up.

BTW.. what's the different between blackhead and whitedhead anyway? Are they caused by clogged pores?Mine, everytime I squeeze it it has white thingy comes out of it. Is that whitehead than? Anyone has special remedy or any product that can clear these up? Thank You all!

I've had eczema for many years. at night my skin tends to burn very badly and itch uncontrolably. I've been to 10 doctors for this, i've tried several creams and treatments. Can anyone give me advice, i just want to stop the burning!

Porridge oats in an old sock in a cool bath - sounds ridiculous - helps a lot!!! You can add a drop of lavender it helps heal and is antispetic. The oats produce a milky liquid which is calming and moisturising at the same time. Definately no soap though, you only need it to break the surface tension to clean you and the oats and lavender will do that.

When you get out, very gently rub your emolient in. You don't want to disturb the calmed skin.

I would also agree with the idea of anti dustmite protection for your sleeping arrangements. Also be careful with whatever you are laundering your bed linen in. If the sheets are greasy from the creams, use soda crystals and soap flakes to wash and some white vinegar as conditioner in the wash. The should come up like new and softened, without any harsh chemicals.

I get eczema on my body, but I was misdiagnosed with eczema on my hands and feet for several years - it was actually a blistering psoriasis. All the skin would come off the bottom of my feet - excruciating as most of your nerve endings are in your hands and feet. This was the only thing that could make it tolerable to get to sleep.

I also took anti-histamines, which helped combat the itching, but mainly because they knocked me out!

Reply:I have this same problem and my son has it also the one thing tha works. I take you a shower and after the shower clean the area with alchol and put Vaseline on it, carry around the little tube of vaseline and apply when it itches.

Reply:My daughter has eczema. I use Aveeno baby eczema cream on her and don't bathe her more than once every three days. At night, I keep the house cool (so she doesn't sweat), and she sleeps in just her underpants, with a couple of really soft microfiber blankets.

Oh, if you get it on the backs of your knees, sitting on a towel whenever you sit in a plastic seat (including a vinyl seat in a car) will help a lot.

I actually have the same problem, so I started using one of the new body washes from Caress. It contains oil to help replenish the skin and I've actually found that it makes a huge difference. It has 3 different levels of hydration and I use the most hydrating level-it's fantastic!

I often forget or don't have time to grease myself down with lotion, so I've found that this helps alot!

Everyone here is right - MAC is going to be the best liquid foundation you're gonna get. But it's on the medium-heavy side.

However, I personally use Bare Escentuals mineral makeup and it works perfect for me. I am 21 and just started wearing makeup daily (I used to wear it only when going out) and people would give me a lot of "Oh you look nice today, did you get a facial?" or "Did you get your eyebrows done, your face looks brighter" because it looks so natural. People couldnt tell I was even wearing makeup, but I looked better.

Reply:I use the Max Factor pancake. Its a round disk and you need a sponge with it. You get the sponge wet and this activates the dry makeup. This is what they use on film sets too, and it is very inexpensive.

You can apply it very evenly without a line or streaks, and it makes your face feel clean all the time.

Reply:I love kms mineral essentials! It performs the same as bare minerals but it doesn't contain bismuth which is a known skin irritant. I also get a lot more product for my money. I have normal to dry skin and it tends to be more dry in the winter. You just have to remember to moisturize before applying.

The makeup keeps up with me. I have a very demanding schedule and it takes me past 12 hours without having to re-apply. You can check them out on the web as they have their own site, but I think they are also selling their kits on ebay too.

My husband is a beginner tattoo artist, like my skin tends to hold ink fine but a couple of our friends that he has tattooed he has had to go over 3 to 4 times and he can't figure out why this is.

some people have thicker skin than others. Therefore the tattoo ink goes in easier with less fading and some dont. And some people dont have high pain tolerance.
Reply:It depends on what kind of tattoos he's been doing, and his clients complexion. If he's doing tribal he'll find it's one of the most frustrating tattoos to approach. If he's doing tribal... I find it works better if i have more than just one ink cap of solid black, maybe 3-5 caps... and I work at a higher voltage on my power supply... key is to set a nice pace, and don't overwork any area... u don't want to scar anyone. any solid color work should never be guaranteed ... solid black especially... most times some little areas need a touch up.

Retin-A question?

My dermatologist prescribed Retin-A 0.05% cream because of my mild breakouts...bumps and clogging on forehead. I've used it nightly for over a week and noticed new breakouts on cheeks and jawline. I know this is the purging process therefore I'm not too concerned yet. I've been reading and researching and hear a lot of great things about retin-a but I have one concern. Does it really make you break out horribly after you stop using it? How long does an average person have to stay on this medication for acne? I am 27 years old with oily skin so I know my breakouts are from the over active oil glands. But with age skin tends to get drier so I'm hoping that I wouldn't have to use retin-a forever since it is so expensive and there are a lot of side effects. Thank you

It is an exfoliant so maybe after you stop it, continue with other exfoliants such as AHA or BHA. You can use it as long as you like. I have used it previously non-stop every night for 5 years before I took accutane but if your acne clears faster and does not come back, you can stop anytime. I actually use Retin-A as my maintanence.

Reply:when i was breaking out really badly on my chin i went to the dr and they prescribed the same thing to me.....i didnt see any good results for about a month and a half and even when i did see results they werent great, i still had breakouts on my jawline but i figured hey, better than before.....so i kept using it, but then after about 2 months it was still making my face peel and not working great so i decided to stop using it and i did break out again- not as bad as my breakouts were before but i still got quite a bit back.....i had to just kinda start over again and figure out cleaners and moisturizers and things to get my face healthy again....now what im using which makes my face feel healthy and clean and clear is st ives blemish control cleanser, (after i use neutrogena makeup remover wipes) then neutrogena pore refining toner and neutrogena oil free moisture sensitive skin....that seemed to work better than retin-a ever did and still is!!!

I have very dark brown hair (almost black), blue eyes, and fair skin. I also have dark brown eyebrows, almost black. I've been wearing blackest black mascara, which makes my eye lashes look great, but against my fair skin tends to make me look gothic. Should I be wearing brown?

You could always try black brown. That way it's not too light to go with your hairand too dark for your skin...
Reply:depending on your look - preppy, sporty, lady-like, etc. you can wear different mascara. with your coloring you might want to wear a dark brown for the day and black at night to make your eyes stand out.

Reply:well... the goal with makeup is *generally* to look natural, so I'd find an eyeliner that's the same color as your mascara. As far as mascara goes, I'd try to find a color that's a little darker than your hair color. So maybe go for a brown black instead of black or blackest black :p Oh, and make sure that you aren't getting clumpy either, since that can make your lashes look even darker. Hope that helped :)

I recently purchased a proactive set, and i'm wondering if it really works for people. I get moderate acne and breakouts. However, my skin tends to get dry easily- how is the product with dry skin? Is there something that works better?

Proactive?
The active ingredient in Proactiv is Benzoyl Peroxide, which works by pretty much drying up the oils in blemishes. It is best used as a spot treatment, unless one has very oily skin it will cause dryness and irritation.

I hate that their commercials say its good for everyone, it's not.

Depending on your age, there are a number of things that can be causing the acne, and therfore a number of ways to treat it. Try Dermalogica's Medi-Bac Clearing Line. Its more expensive than Proactiv, but more gently and very effective for all skin types. It contains salicylic acid which is antibacterial and lightly exfoliating, as well as botanicals to soothe inflammation.

If you wish to continue using the Proactiv, only use the cleanser and follow up with a hydrating toner, a good non comedogenic moisturizer, and if needed a hydrating gel masque a few times a week.

Reply:No i was fooled also and bought it and it didnt work. I only had a little bit of acne too! It is a product which is used to dry out your skin so your skin will dry up even more, the thing I did and recommend is going to your doctor and asking for a topical solution, its a rollon that doesn't dry out your face and helps it heal quicker, along with some medicated skin tablets, you should be cured, I did it.
Reply:I'm going to be completely honest with you. It really does work for me. I love it. The face wash is good, but the toner stuff, you can actually feel cleaning your face. Even after a shower, if you use the cleanser then toner, you can see the dirt on your face left on the cotton ball you use. It's amazing. My favorite product is the face mask. It works amazingly. I can put it on and the next day, my acne is gone.
Reply:okay. i am gonna tell you what i tell everybody. proactive is not all it craked up to be. yeah it clears you skin up (after a few days) but there are things just as good out there if not better that work faster and are cheaper. i use this stuff called acnee free. its the same exact thing as proactive with the 3 steps and everything. it actually better than proavtive becuase it works like over night. it has something in like time released benzoid or something like that and i means it works all day and proactive doesnt have that. and its alot cheaper than proactive too! and you can go buy it at your local walmart or target instead of having the hassle of having to wait a week.

On the other hand, my daughter had problems with it flaking, not good for a girl.

Reply:It works for some people and doesn't for others. With any new skin regime that you try make sure that you give it at least 2 weeks to see if it works for you. Your skin will get all confused if you keep switching between products.

I have used both Bare Minerals and Everyday Minerals, and although I think that the shades of EM are way superior to BM's, my skin tends to look shiny/oily after a while. Bare Minerals was the only makeup that I've ever used and my face looked matte all day (my skin is oily and acne prone). Has anyone else experienced this? Does it mean that BE clogs your pores and doesn't let oil come out? Why is it that the EM makeup will let it out?

Please note that I have used both the matte and intensive formula of EM. Thanks for your replies!

I have found this to be true as well. Bare Minerals seem to work better for me and my mother both. I think that Bare Mineral's ingredients clog your pores less than Everyday Minerals, but yet they still allow your skin to absorb oil instead of it just sitting there leaving you with that horrible shine. Bare Minerals, all the way.

Reply:I experience the opposite. I think Bare Minerals makes my skin too shiny not oily but just very shiny. This is because it has the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride in it. They put this ingredient in because it makes your makeup stay on your face all day. You should check into this ingredient because its refined and can clog pores if worn very heavily and causes irritation and itching. Everyday minerals doesn't contain this ingredient , so people with very oily skin this makeup doesn't last all day like Bare Minerals and after a while you'll find that your skin does look shiny /oily. But because my skin is more normal than oily Everyday Minerals stays matte all day for me. There are several Mineral Makeup companies out there that only have ALL natural minerals unlike Bare Minerals and stays all day, My two favorite are Signature Minerals and Everyday Minerals.

I use Almay a lot, and I also use the same cover stick as you, but do you use the green one? Give that a try as green counteracts the redness. Also, rather than try and cover up my acne, I found a product range (RoC Purif Ac Cleanser and Blemish Correcting Emulsion) that almost completely cleared my skin, and now for the first time in years I can go out without having to spend ages covering my spots. Is scratching your stump a bad thing?

I recently lost my index finger in an accident that involved a broken lawn mower and a few too many beers. After about a month the skin grew over the stump, but it keeps getting itchy. When I scratch it the skin tends to break open an leak blood and puss. Should I not scratch it anymore? If not what do I do about the itchiness?

sounds like to me you need to go see a doctor about it.scratching it isn't going to help it at all. there is a reason why pus comes out of it.it might be infected.
Reply:Ooohh! Sounds painful, sorry to hear about your accident. Luckily it wasn't your thumb! Anyway, I wouldn't scratch it since it's still healing. You should talk to your doctor about meds, but i would use Benedryl and try your hardest not to scratch it. Itching means its healing which is a good thing, so don't ruin in. Good luck.

Reply:You should go back to your surgeon and see if the wound needs revision. The blood makes sense but the pus does not . When I took off the first joint of my pinkie many years ago , I needed two additional surgical procedures done to get the wound right.

I have a lot of acne on my skin, and also my skin tends to get dry and flake up when I put my foundation on my face. Does anyone know some really good non-comedogenic foundation I can use that will cover all this up so that my skin will have a great complexion to it?

go to ur local department store that has make up counters. Lancome makes excellent foundations. MAC is good too. Estee Lauder is not bad either. Sometimes the stuff you buy at walgreens or other places just isnt that good of quality and can be old.

Start with a good oil free moisturizer, that should help the flackey-ness.

good luck with it! finding a good foundation can take forever it seems. But you should really maybe try going to a make up counter and have the ladies help you find a good oil free foundation. They usually do a good job color matching to your skin too. Plus they are more then willing to put some make up on you and try new colors...which is always fun!! LOL

Reply:The best i have found is moisture face base from the body shop its got marula oil in it which is non comdegenic give as medium coverage and i hardly have to use concealer anymore plus it has SPF 15.

What is you skin routine like? If you are getting flakiness it sounds like you need a good exfoliator because if you use your moisturizer on flaky skin your moisturizer will have to go through the flaky skin first and not give you as good benefits

Reply:It sounds like you might have the same problem as I do. I have a small amount of acne and my face wash can dry out my skin and give me little flakes. I just discovered phisoderm facial moisturizer and it helps tremedously with the flakiness and doesnt make me break out, I would also recommend the phisoderm facial cleanser! As far as foundation I would recommend any of Neutrogena's skin clearing oil-free foundations or powders. They work wonders and come in a variety of shades! Hope this helps!

I've been using Noxema every morning. However, I've noticed it over drys my skin. Is there a product which won't do this? In fact, is there a soap which can also moisturize my skin. My skin tends to be dry. However, I want to wash my face regularly as a part of my routine.

i absolutly hate wearing make-up but i usually have to atleast wear cover-up because my skin tends to break out lol....but i need some suggestions on which u think is the best kind, nothing that will make my skin oily or cause my skin to break out more, something that almost works like magic lol...suggestions?

I also have acne, which is so irritating because I feel like I can't look good at all unless I use foundation to make my skin look nice. I've tried just about every cover-up in existence, and I've found one that's almost close to magical. I use Merl Norman luxiva ultra powder foundation. (If there isn't one near you, you can order them.) It's a powder that covers perfectly and makes your skin look airbrushed and soooo smooth. I used to use cover up, then foundation, then powder, but this is like using all three at once. It never looks heavy, and easily covers even the most red irritated bumps. Also, it easily covers different textures of skin. Like other cover-ups that I used over a healing pimple would make it look cracked and horrible. But if you put this over a healing pimple, the pimple disappears completely. I can't stress enough how this has changed my life, making me feel so much better about my skin. I know, I sound like an advertiser for it, lol. But seriously, it's great. And it works on every skin type. It doesn't dry skin up or make it oily. I can e-mail you before and after pictures of me when I use it if you want...let me know.

My dog scratches himself til his hair falls out, causes and cures?

I have a small dog, not sure what breed. He's some kind of mix, looks like a terrier except all black. We got him from the pound, they said he had a dry skin problem. Things were fine for a while, and then he started scratching constantly, or chewing at himself. Over time, patches of hair were just missing because of it, now it's gotten fairly bad where he barely has any hair. Also his skin tends to be red and irritated from constant scratching, sometimes even bleeding. Someone suggested fish oil pills for his dry skin, I give him one a day. Also I give him weekly baths where I use oatmeal bath in the water, and use a flea/medicated shampoo. It makes him better, but only for that night. The next day he is scratching and chewing like crazy again. Does anyone know what could be causing this, and what I can do about it? I don't have the money to take him to a veterinarian :(

Since you can't afford a vet try changing his food to one with a minimum amount of any grains in it.

Reply:Too many baths and the shampoo could do this. I don't bathe my dogs unless they are stinky. My German Shepherd will bite his hair off sometime. I just got a hydrocortisone spray and sprayed the itchy spots. I really think you are bathing him too much and drying him out. Hey, another thing you can do to freshen him up is rub him all over with corn starch, even massaging while you do it, then brush it out. He will be all fresh and clean.

Reply:sounds like mange..... you may have to take him to the vet if it is as bad as you say it is. The little guy is obviously suffering and miserable! :( How long have you had him? I adopted a pound puppy some time ago, and found it to have more medical problems than usual because of the living conditions of the dog. He is better now that he is getting a well balanced diet and exercise as well as exposure to normal outside air versus being penned up all day long, but your little guy does sound like mange (a skin condition that can be cured with antibiotics and special skin conditioners). I hope it all gets better for you and your little dog!
Reply:Fleas. Contrary to popular belief, they do not live on your dog, but in the carpets and bedding. Your dog is just the food supply. I had a small dog that had the same problem. Moved with him to a high altitude city, so high fleas could not live, and the problem went away, and his coat grew back very nicely. To get rid of fleas without moving to the mountains, simply get some boric acid- sold as roach powder in stores, and sprinkle it on the carpets. Sweep it in very well, leave in the carpets for as long a you can- at least 2-3 hours, and vacuum it up. Will prevent fleas, roaches, silverfish, ants- anything that can crawl on carpets for 1 year, or until you shampoo the carpet. It is safe for other pets and small children to be around.
Reply:My dog used to do the same thing although she never made herself bleed. It could be that you are giving your dog too many baths which could add to the dry skin problem. My vet also said it could be that she has allergies. If your dog is scratching his face this may be the problem. I only give my dog a bath once a month so her skin doesn't become dry- especially in the winter months. Also, the medicated shampoo might be drying out his skin.
Reply:I am sure it is dry skin one of my dogs has it bad too. They do have dog food out there for dry sensitve skin that you could try to use. Also if you catch your dog scratching like that stop it. if anything rub the area for the poor thing. It sucks cause there isn't any lotion that we could give them like we use. What is you just called your vet and maybe just have them give you ideas on what else you can do. and be careful of all the stuff you do try putting on the skin cause it could just irratate the skin worse. Reply:Could be any number of causes - and you do need to take him to a vet for answers -

I assume he is on topical flea preventatives every single month - Frontline or Advantage, nothing else works fully.

Don't bathe him every week, that dries out his skin terribly, he doesn't need that and you are making his skin problems worse.

Sounds as if he has mange actually, and he needs a skin scraping to find out what kind of mange - then your vet can give you dips for the dog that will cure him.

If he has a food allergy, switch his food. Make sure it is a good dry like Canidae, not supermarket junk. Meat should be the first ingredient listed,not corn meal or fillers.

You can afford the vet - you must do it if he has mange as it sounds - you cannot let your dog suffer like this, it's irresponsible and cruel.

Please get your dog some help. Call your local Humane Society and ask for a recommendation to a low cost vet clinic if you really cannot afford a private vet - but get your poor dog some help.

Reply:Pyrethrins or permethrins are the active ingredient in flea shampoo and NIX and RID. Use only the one approved for animals. If there are fleas, it's likely he's allergic to them. Use Advantage (read the directions very well, it's easy to mess up) and if that helps, that's your problem. When the skin is that bad, they often need steroids to get some relief. Only a vet can do that. You may want to call several vets and explain your situation. Where I live there are places to go where donations cover your cost. Your dog could also have mange, pemphigus, allergic dermatitis, or other conditions that can only be treated by a vet and will only get worse if left untreated. Part of owning an animal is being able to provide for them this way.
Reply:Try wet food or if he really likes dry food putting vegetable oil or bacon grease over it do that every other day untill you see a change in his skin. Now don't do it for a long time. if there is no change in a month u need to take him to a vet rather you have the money or not.

Reply:He could have allergies. My dog takes Benedryl when he is due for his steroid shot, that could help. Do not feed him chicken dog food, my vet said a lot of dogs are allergic. The lamb and rice is good. Try to find a free or low cost vet somewhere. Imagine if you were so itchy that you chewed sores in your skin.

I know you cant afford a vet but it would please me to know that there is not a condition called mange which has to be treated by prescription medicine.

Assuming that this is not the case, your pup has, as you put it has excessively dry skin. Fish oil is not a bad choice (Cod liver is best but tastes awful). You also may want to treat the condition topically as well as internally.

Look for soothing type skin treatments that will keep the skin from drying out. Vitamin E oil comes to mind. Stay away from anything with alcohol in it as it dries.

Assuming its not Mange or a similar skin disease, he hopefully will feel better.

Reply:Actually, you dog may have mange. Does your dog smell too? If so the signs you described along with the scent may be clear signs. My dog had mange when we got him as a pup, (breeders were careless) but we tried the Borax and peroxide home remedy and it worked. He no longer scratches and doesn't stink anymore. You should also try putting him on a better brand of food like NutroNatural. He may be allergic to what you are feeding him.
Reply:I understand that finances are tight for some people, but it is your responsibility to take your dog to the vet when he is ill. And if he has lost almost all of his hair, then he is most definitely ill. He needs to go to the vet for a skin work up.

As for potential causes, this sounds most like classic allergies, especially since bathing seems to make it better (bathing a dog can physically remove environmental allergens). Fish oil with omega fatty acids will help, but you need to be doing more. Supplementing with vitamin E in addition to fish oils/omega fatty acids can help support healing and healthy skin and it seems to have anti-inflammatory properties. You will have to start with a food trial, where you put him on a "novel protein" diet for at least 4 weeks to see if it improves his itching. Look for a food that has a protein source that he has never eaten before (like duck, fish, venison, rabbit, turkey, or lamb). Make SURE there is NO wheat, corn, or soy in the food. It will probably be more expensive than whatever you are feeding him now, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than allergy tests. No commercial treats or treats that contain something that isn't in your food (you will probably have to use your food as treats or use a jerky made from whatever the meat source in your food is).

You also need to change your bathing schedule. Since he has irritated skin and bathing seems to help, I don't think bathing him once a week is necessarily a bad thing. But you need to use different shampoo and add a coat and skin conditioner to help counter the drying effects of frequent bathing. Make sure the oatmeal shampoo does not have any colorings or artificial scents in it as these can cause allergic reactions. And STOP using the flea shampoo! Any over the counter flea shampoo you can buy is virtually useless and they contain harsh chemicals that dry out the skin and can be toxic to dogs if they get too large a dose or too often a dose.

Finally, antihistamines can help. My allergy dog switches between benedryl, which we buy over the counter, and hydroxazine, which we buy at the vet. Call your vet and ask them what an appropriate dose would be for your dog. When he is having skin flare ups, my dog also gets a cortisone-cream on the trouble spots.

You still need to get him to a vet. This kind of hair loss is also common with mites, which you will not be able to see with the naked eye and you can not treat with over-the-counter products. Plus, if his skin is really really red and irritated he may have a secondary bacterial or yeast infection that will require medication to treat.
Reply:Your problem could be as simple as a food allergy. Many dogs are allergic to corn which is in almost all dog foods, or some kind of by product. I suggest switching to a brand that had no corn or chicken by products. I like to use Dick Van Patten's fish and sweet potato for my dogs allergies. It is a bit more expensive but worth every penny. The hardest part is keeping her out of things and making sure people don't feed your dog treats.

I am not sure which is better for me...

I am looking for something that will even out my skin tone, get rid of a bit of shine in the t-zone area and is light weight (so I don't feel like I have clown makeup on). I have sensitive skin, get very few breakouts and my skin tends to be on the dry side. Tomorrow I am heading to a MAC counter to find either powder or foundation...

Since you have sensitive skin, avoid Bare Minerals since it contains Bismuth and will only make you breakout even more. When you go to M.A.C. or any other cosmetic counter, look for a tinted moisturizer or a foundation that is oil-free and moisturizes dry parts of your skin. Tinted moisturizers are great for a light-weight feel and they give enough coverage without the look of heavy makeup.

My suggestion is to use both. A good foundation if it is sheer, oil free, water based, dermatologist and allergy tested, should not feel heavy, irritate your sensitive skin nor cause you to break out. It will even out your skin tone, control shine and leave your skin looking and feeling natural. There are also foundations and concealing cremes that have natural vitamins and anti-oxidants that will condition the skin as well. Follow up with a good powder to finish the look and to touch up throughout the day.

Reply:Mineral makeup is best, it's very natural, has awesome wear-ability, is non-cosmogenic, and is oil free, but please think twice before using Bare Minerals (aka Bare Escentuals) OR Sheer Cover! These products contain bismuth which is NOT a healthy mineral and NOT at all recommended for sensitive skin! It resembles arsenic!!! I used this makeup not knowing this fact and it caused me a very bad allergic reaction including intense itch, large blotchy patches of redness, and break outs! After that i looked into LAMinerals but didn't go with them since they put silk powder (killing the animals that make the silk) and other weird ingredients like magnesium, and calcium into their makeup... Common sense told me the more ingredients, the higher the risk of blocked pores, break outs, and allergic reactions...

I then found this makeup and have been using it for 2 years now! It's wonderful! They have 17 foundation colors (way more then the competitors!) and 5 different finishing powders, choose the one for you skin type! Plus they have over 45 eye shadows! It really works well! ok so i wash my face twice a day with Neutrogena oil free face wash i do not apply any type of lotion or moisturizer just the soap..

so my skin tends to get a bit dry..

so when i apply the powder little dryed skin always appear on my face corner of lips and cheeks and in between my eyebrows..

my question is what to use under the powder that does not make my face greasy since i have T-zone complexion. i just want something to even out my skin and stop the oil from my forehead and nose from appering but yet to moisturize my cheecks, side of lips and in between my eyebrows..

MAC has a blot powder that you can use, which takes the oily look away. I have dry skin so I use the MAC moistureblend, then I lightly apply the MAC blot powder. Here is the description, which I copied from their website...

Reply:Use a combination skin moisturizer, and you should apply it with a foundation brush. The brush prevents the oil from your hands getting on your face. Mary Kay makes a nice combination skin lotion, and Aveeno sensitive skin face moisturizer seems to work well for me.

Reply:Most people have the t-zone problem. It sounds like you are drying out your skin a bit, which can backfire as it sometimes makes the skin produce more oil. You might want to switch to a more gentle soap, purpose makes a good mild one that doesn't strip moisture. Whichever soap you use, put your light moisturizer on right after cleansing on the areas that feel dry/need it.

Anyway - There are moisturizers that claim to fix this, but I think two different products would work best for your T-zone. . Get something like Smashbox's anti shine (at sephora stores) to block out the shine, and a regular oil free moisturizer (there are tons of good ones) to your dry areas.

The bodyshop also makes a mattifying gel (for your forehead and nose) if you can't find a sephora store near you
Reply:i have the same skin problem just use clinique dramatically diffrent mosturizer gel.....its a combo mosturizer easy on the tzone so u wont look oily....but if i were you i would use seperate foundation and powder because u could always add a lil mosturizer to ur foundation with a sponge so it glides on easy and appear smoother....then finish it with the powder using a powder brush to set it to give that more even effect because using two products in one like that makes it look cakey.

I am Asian, have light skin, no pimples, but my skin tends to look dull and tired all the time.

1. Should I use a tinted moisturizer (mix Revlon Colorstay + moisturizer) to correct this or should I use just a loose powder by itself? I want to stay with a natural look.

2. Does Revlon Colorstay Softflex break you out? I have pretty sensitive skin...

Please don't suggest other products, as where I live there is no Mary Kay, Bare Minerals, Covergirl, Revlon Colorstay Active, etc. and I'm a student on a budget :)

Alright, I love Revlon I use it all the time and I do love it. (I have very clear skin, so it isn't good for covering things, but I like it- I don't have a problem with breaking out with it)

Reading on natural foundation they suggest moisterizer and then powder. However, a tinted moisteriser is very good also. but you get different looks. Since your asian I think you would be better off witha tinted moisterizer however:

Moisterizer: dewy

Powder: matte

Other tips is a bit of bronzer or blush- that will wake you up a lot more than just foundation

Also, I highly recomend vasaline. It is cheep and it does cool things to your skin (it is the reason I don't have skin problems) it makes your skin itself glow.
Reply:It sounds like you're on the right track when it comes to moisturizing.....

Asian skin sometimes, can tend to be on the dryer side. Then, of course, you also have other elements that come into play, i.e. city life, diet, being a student and overstressing!

With that being said, it sounds like you're in a great need of moisture from the description you have given. I say stick with the tinted moisturizers. If you're not alreayd, please know that you still need to use a light moisturizer even if you're using a tinted moisturizer! If you're in the area that has MAC, it is a GREAT line to use and the tinted moisturizer is soft and light, only giving a little hint of color and coverage so your skin isn't bombarded with a lot of chemicals and such!

If you CAN, try finding one of those whipped foundations. Or mousse foundations. These foundations have a lot of moisture and also air built into them, so they're great for dry and/or dull and tired skin.

Also, here's a simple home remedy that sounds weird, but it works!! At night, after cleansing your skin, take a lemon slice and actually use the juice of the lemon and pat it all over your face! Then, apply your regular moisturizer! The lemon juice eats away the dead skin, helping the new, brighter skin to show through! It also has a great tendency to eat away blackheads on the nose area if you RUB it in instead of patting! But, remember, always always ALWAYS use moisturizer afterwards. Cleanse in the morning, use moisturizer, and then apply your tinted moisturizer!

Reply:The only way to get rid of blackheads is to wash your face well, then put your face in the steam from the hot water running for a while (cover your head over the sink with a towel, to keep the steam in), then with clean hands and a tissue, squeeze the blackheads out. When you are done, wash your face with soap, and icy water to close your pores. You may have to do this once a week or at least once a month. No products will prevent blackheads from coming. The best things to do would be to always make sure your hands were just washed before you touch your face, and also, every time you shower (or if you just wash your face) end your shower with icy cold water on your face to close the pores (actually that's good for your whole body). Smaller pores prevent dirt from entering, and the blackheads will be smaller or less of them.

Reply:Do you mean keloids (google it)? If you get keloids easily then you shouldn't get tattooed, unfortunately.

EDIT:

No offense intended, but how exactly do you know it is hypertrophic scarring? Keloids grow really gradually; has enough time passed to know? I have them on my ears (from piercings that I probably stretched too fast). I also have had a couple other keloid scars from injuries. However, I have lots of tattoo work, and never any scarring from that. Dermatologist will probably tell you don't do it, but really it is probably your own risk. Get a small, inconspicuous area tattooed and see what happens.
Reply:If you get keloids (over growth of skin/scar tissue) then you shouldn't get tattoos. They will not heal well and end up looking terrible. The best way to know if you get keloids is to talk to your dermatologist.

some people had told me that cleaning my face with soap would break away my skin. but its crazy how i discover that using especialized products for the face sometimes can get your skin way better or worse. i had used products such as L'oreal, Noxzema, Clean %26amp; Clear... and they haven't make my skin lighter as cuaba soap had done to me. i dont have acne problems but my skin tends to get shiny and grease, which i hate it. i started using this soap and my skin (which i make up everyday with SPF foundation and mineral eye shadow and light pencil -natural make up) doesn't get grease after 8 hrs.

can you recommend me to be usin this soap? i mean.. my skin gets super clean but dry after using it.

use whatever ur skin handles, if its too dry use a moisturizer, but the best best product is nuetrogena face cleanser, i use double ur makeup and it gets it all out, but use face wipes, then cleanser, then moisturizer, or use ur soap and moisturize thats all. oh and once in a while if its to dry put olive oil on ur face for 5 minutes then wash it off with a cleanser not soap! it will feel nice and soft

Reply:I have heard this my whole life, since I use Tone bar soap on my face. But it is the ONLY thing that works for me, and perfectly well I might add then I follow up with oil free moisturizer.

Each skin is unique, if what you are doing works for you I say stick with it.

Reply:after you take off your make-up and your skin becomes dry, add a 'skin moisturizer' to only the dry parts but since you have oily skin, you should buy a 'non-greasy moiusturizer' which you can buy anywhere but make sure that you read the label on it so it says for oily skin or non greasy or something like that. I have oily (greasy) skin on my forehead also...it's a pain but its a known thing that if you have greasy hair, you will not have wrinkles when you are older!

Reply:It's a bit tricky as a product that might agree with one person might be totally wrong for another. I learned this the hard way through trial and error. I have very dry skin and soap causes me to break out in hives. Now I use Cetaphil. If this sopa that you are using agreees with with you, then by all means use it. Maybe just use a light moisturiser to get back some of the moisture.
Reply:Sure, you can use soap while you are young. If your skin feels dry, use a light moisturizer. Soap will clean your skin incredibly well but will also strip your skin of natural oils and moisture that keep your skin healthy and elastic. While you are young, you may only experience the discomfort of your skin feeling "tight" from the soap, but later you will be at risk of wrinkles. Many people over dry their skin to prevent acne breakouts, but they damage their skin's elasticity causing other problems later in life. Ideally, you will take care of your skin from the inside out. Eat healthy fruits and veggies and drink lots of water. If you opt out of using cleansers on your face, you could try natural glycerin bars which is soap free. In addition, use a mask once a week, such a clay mask to draw out impurities.

The best way to find out what's right for your unique skin is by trying different products. I have oily skin and prefer "Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash" following with "Desert Essence Natural Facial Cleansing Pads with Tea Tree Oil" which uses herbal extracts to gently remove dirt from pores. You can find these products in the health/natural/organic section of most stores. I finish with a light oil-free moisturizer.

Its probably yeast in the ears and demodectic mange elsewhere.

Yeast can be controlled fairly easily by simply cleaning the ears with rubbing alcohol on a very regular basis to retard the growth.

Demodex will need treatment from a vet with oral ivermectin.

Both conditions are reoccurring, but can be controlled.

The breed is prone to autoimmune issues like these.

The lumps could be sebaceous gland tumors. These can be treated with Cryosurgery but can reocurr.

You can flush the ears with one of the otic products containing Novalsan. This should be done 2 times a day then followed by Panotic ointment. Sometimes deep seated ear infections will be treated systemically as well as the above. Has an ear culture for sensitivity been done? This would tell you the bacteria that is causing the infection and the drug that would be the most beneficial in treating it.

The skin infection could be food allergy or all of your problems could be systemically ralated. Try cooking brown rice and chicken - add 1 fish oil tablet ( 1000mg human grade). See if he responds. This is about as benign a diet as you can go.

Post back on any progress. I hope that your dog responds.

Your dog sounds like he is just miserable and you are right for asking for help.

It might be an allergy - food or flea or a bacterial infection. Go get a correct diagnosis.

Reply:My Boxer did the same thing back last year our vet said it was a type of mange that was not transferable to other animals he treated it as such for about a week and his conditions cleared up an no more spots other than a scar or two.
Reply:Pits are known for very sensitive skin and ear problems. Has he been checked for mites? He may be very prone to ear infections. Has the vet made any suggestions? It may be allergies (my pit mix is very allergic to even one fleabite!). What has he been tested for?

Do a search for resolved questions under ear problems - someone else had asked about a similar problem, and there was a great response from a vet tech that might be helpful to you. Good luck, and make sure you are going to a good vet.

Your dog has allergies! The lumps are related to allergies and so is the ear digging. Change his food immediately to a non-allergenic food such as Duck and Potato. I know it can be more expensive, but not as expensive as the vetting is going to cost you.

We had a Boxer in our rescue that had the same symptoms and just about drove us, and himself, crazy trying to figure it out. It ended up that it was a reaction to grooming spray (aid), and we had another dog pop-up with it again. Same thing.

I would make sure that you don't use any cleaning sprays or cleaners around that dog. It might be allergic to house-hold cleaning products.

He might also have a yeast infection in his ears. These bully breeds seem to get a lot of yeast infections in their ears. You can get drops from the vet for cleaning the ears to get rid of the infection. You have to clean the ears every day with the drops for about 10 days to get rid of the infection. If this continues this dog can go deaf (and be in an immense amount of pain) from the continuing infection.

1Step OneFirst, carefully read the ingredients listings on your dog's current food. Don't forget to look at the ingredients in any treats or supplements you give your dog!

Note any common offending allergens, including (but not limited to):

beef, dairy products, chicken, wheat, eggs, corn and soy.

2Step TwoIf your dog's current pet food has a beef or poultry protein, choose an alternative food that contains a novel protein (one that your pooch has not been exposed to). Examples of novel proteins include:

duck, venison, buffalo/bison, kangaroo, and some fish

Make sure the alternate food does not contain dairy, wheat, corn or soy either!

3Step ThreeImmediately switch your dog's current food with the alternate food, and feed for 3 months. Look for signs of improvement.

As with any change in diet, your pet may experience loose stools when adjusting to the new diet. This is likely not a new allergy, but just part of the adjustment period.

After 3 months of trying the new diet, symptoms should have disappeared if the dog has a food allergy. If symptoms do not subside, a carbohydrate may be the offending ingredient. Try Brown rice, Sweet potato, or no carbohydrates at all. Again, try this for 3 months.

Remember not to supplement with anything else, including treats for the trial period!

Reply:I agree, it may be the food and some sort of allergy to it! I think switching food should be one of the first things you do! My reccomendatiom would be either California Natural(they also make Innova and Evo, under Natura brand) or maybe even try something with a sweet potato as one of the main ingrediants like natural balance or pinnacle. Reply:skin allergies are sooo common in dogs it's not funny. the best thing to do is take him to a vet. if money is an issue most vets will work with you on billing.

if the dog has a skin allergy it could be related to poor diet, obesity, or a chemical of some sort. if this is so some vets choose a simple steroid injection that can be given once a month and maybe a shampoo.

another cause could be mange, in which case the just dip the dog a few times in a special medication and usually it goes away.

but please take him to the vet. most vets will work with you and try the phone book to call beforehand to discuss prices so you can find the best vet for you.

Consult a Veterinarian, and an Allergist to help manage the allergies/sensitivities.

Don't give him anything until you have spoken with a Vet.

Switch to a HIGH quality food - with NO corn, wheat, soy, by-product, or digest.

Add a fish oil supplement to his diet, as well as a Vitamin E supplement, and raw egg - 1-2 a week max.

Allergies like this are not curable, but definitely treatable and not life threatening.

Reply:My Pit had serious rashes as a puppy. The vet figured a food allergy and we put her on Eukanuba F/P (fish and potato). It took care of the rash but she was still a bit itchy and would scratch her back on the couch. Now that I am retired $70.00 for 30 lbs of food was too much. I changed her to a lamb and rice mix which is even better than the F/P, no more itching.

Try putting you dog on a diet without meat or meat byproducts. You should find out from your vet the dosage of children's benadryl to give him. My vet also suggested Claritin, gernaric not brand name, a lot cheaper. Get something from your vet to clean his ears and clean them every day.

My other Pit puppy got bumps all over her head, shoulders front legs and down her back. The vets best guess was a spider bite or insect sting. Check your yard where the dog goes.

Another thing would be try a different vet.

My husband took my son to Supercuts and the person that cut his hair also cut my son and left him bleeding right behind his ear. Now my husband didn't notice it. He just quickly glanced at his hair from the front and paid the lady and even tipped her and then they came home. Once they got home I ofcourse inspected his haircut, (just as any mother would) and was upset to see that he had a glob of blood that was beginning to crust right behind his ear. It was only obvious she had cut him with the clippers. My son is very bashful. As a matter of fact he is the type of person who gets very quiet when he gets hurt. He keeps it to himself. So I'm really not surprised that he didn't say anything while they were still there. I just couldn't believe that she never mentioned it at all. She even took a tip. I would have expected her to have let my husband know so that it could be cleaned and tended to right away. How many others has she cut with those clippers? What about aids? Can I sue?

You can certainly sue: people do it all the time, for reasons even dumber than this. But just what would you gain? The poor lady's wages for two weeks?

I am 36 years old and about 4 years ago I started highlighting my hair and sometimes I would foil it depending on how much blonde I wanted. I am tired of the sometimes striped look. My hair grows fast so it needs coloring to me. I recently went to my stylist and told her to cut 2 inches off to remove the lightest color hair off my ends. THis helped alot. It looks better. I had my hair foiled in Dec.06 . I want to COVER gray and not really go dark back to my natural mousy med brown. My hair has a thick course texture and tends to be dry.

Reply:Medium strawberry blondes look really nice with your coloring, but I would HIGHLY suggest that you go to a salon and get a consultation and let the stylist/colorist help you more.
Reply:I would go with a nice auburn color, for a couple of reasons. 1) It would match nicely with your coloring and 2) it is easy to maintain. With your natural hair color being brown, it will be difficult for other people to tell when it starts growing out, so you won't have to get it colored as often.
Reply:I would go to a really good colorist--maybe not the one you go to know--and get a (probably expensive)--corrective color that is as close to your natural color as possible. Then get just a few foil packet highlights put in on the crown and at the front of your face. DON'T LET THEM SLICE THE HIGHLIGHTS IN. Make sure they weave them, very fine. Slicing highlights makes stripes. Doing a really fine weave and feathering the color to the end is more subtle. Just get 6-10 packets put it--many places will do this for a few dollars a packet. That way it isn't as expensive and time consuming as getting a partial or full highlight. Then, get a cut that has a lot of movement--some layers or choppy pieces. When you have a lot of movement, but your hair grows fast, the movement/layers/etc. takes the emphasis away from the re-growth at the hairline. Then, every 5-8 weeks, just get those couple packets re-colored when you get your hair cut. It is cheaper and less damaging to your hair than coloring it all over from a box at home (seldom looks nice, anyway) and splurging all the time for salon color. You'd be surprised how okay a natural color can look. But if you really hate it, after getting a color correction, use a box to color where you want it, then go to a salon and get the 6-8 packets put in to add the subtle highlights and dimmension. I wouldn't reccomend doing highlights from a box at home. Seldom do those look even reasonable, and it would be difficult for you to weave them in so they don't look stripey. Good luck!

Reply:For dry skin, try and stay away from all lotions. You want cream not lotion if you are extreamly dry. Try Ponds face cream for dry skin in the white and bue jar.It is very reasonable and also when you cleanse your face, make sure it is for dry skin, because what you are cleansing your face with nakes a big difference. Try Cetaphel Gentle cleanser in the white and blue bottle. It is very gentle for dry skin. Drink a lot of water too.

Reply:In addition to the other suggestions, be careful not to over-wash your face (no more than once a day), and make sure you use a gentle, moisturizing soap when you do. A lot of regular soaps strip your skin of natural oils. To treat dry skin on my legs, I've had success by massaging my skin with a (very) small quantity of olive oil, which contains vitamin E. Vitamin E is proven to help dry skin, so look for creams that list it as a primary active ingredient. Good luck!

One of mine does this at times. She is 7 years old. They think of us as their mothers so they do this instinctively. My Olivia nurses on my forearm, so I wear long sleeve shirts to bed. You could try rubbing some cat repellent on the areas that he nurses.
Reply:Ooooh, this shows how much he loves you! But I have cats and know how it can get on your nerves especially when you wanna get to sleep.

The solution I found was putting an old woolen jumper on the end of my bed or up near me, I find they will foot press on that instead.

They also love fake fur fabric so you could try this too!

Reply:We have two cats that do this behavior. It's a security thing that may be related to being weaned too early. One cat goes for the neck, the other sucks on the nits in the blankets. Go figure. I would put up with a couple nights of meowing, and try to train him to only be a lap pet at specific times (like when you're watching TV.)

it is exactly what you said ....where you sweat and where clothing rubs,...it may not be a cyst, but rather a boil or an ingrown hair, possibly look in to a free clinic if it is concerning you greatly, ....if it isn't a cyst but a boil just apply a warm moist cloth to the are a few times a day

Try ortho-novum. Ortho tri-cyclen seems to leave many people with problems finding emotional balance. Novum is more gentle, helps with skin, and has a low incidence of side effects--including sexual side effects.
Reply:The low dose Mircette did wonders for my skin, but it totally killed my sex drive. Yasmin was great for my skin and it didn't make me depressed, but it gave me spider veins.

Do not try POP pills (also known as mini pills) because they tend to cause depression and low libido way more often than the combined pills.

My partner sufferes with eczema all over his body particually arms, feet, legs and bum. It is quite severe and tends to weep regular. He is under the hospital who have given him a number of creams etc to help and treat his condition. Non of which seem to be helping. Recently he has been to see a chinese herbalist who said that his condition is a very bad case in this country (uk). He has now been given various herbal remedies as the herbalist assumes that the creams and lotions given by the doctors are actually feeding the condition rather than helping. Has anyone found this a success?

I've got psoriasis, I'm clearly not an expert, but I believe very much in a holistic approach. I used to be covered from neck to toe, and now I've on ony 6 small dots of it. No cream has ever done me any good.

Please seriously try cutting out dairy for 3 weeks, and if that doesn't work, try cutting out wheat and gluten. Also, try to eliminate any stress the guy is under.

I don't believe in Chinese medicine, but it is more from a moral standpoint than a medical one (They use the ground up horn of an endangered Rhino for an aphrodisiac amongst other things), but I found homeopathy to be absolutely amazing, where conventional medicine had done nothing.

She also has had all the conventional treatment which i agree with you just helps heal the surface of the skin but doesn't treat the cause. My face is exactly the same way. Use Ponds moisturizer after using a facial cleanser so you'll prevent breakouts but won't have the dry itchy skin that goes along with it.

His underbelly is pink, underarms are pink. The fur around the underarms are tinted slightly more red. The fur around his eyes are a darker tinted red (but that I can understand that as he is low to the ground). His anis is swollenish but doen't seem to poss a problem. There are a number of kinds of bacteria that can be cultured from a "hot spot" and fortunately most respond to oral and topical antibiotics. They do reverse sneezing sometimes that is loud and disturbing but perfectly normal for dogs with short noses. They all lay on the tile with their legs out because it is cool. So I'm a 17 year old girl, and I've had acne for a very long time. I'm on a lot of prescriptions that really help; I only have minor bumps on my face now. However, my face is just red. I think its kind of like that naturally and then because of some acne scarring and stuff its worse. I use good makeup and stuff but it still just tends to show through eventually. i know there's a bunch of questions like this, but i can't seem to find any answers that i havn't tried already....so here it goes...

i always wash my face before applying makeup, but my eyelids always get really oily after a couple hours. i havn't worn eyeshadow in a long time even tho i would love to because i get a really bad crease in just a few hours. i've tried eye primer from mary kay, but it doesn't work. I looked around on different sites to see about trying a different brand, and i thought maybe the eye primer from urban decay. has anyone tried it, or do you have any suggestions on what i could do?

my eyeliner also tends to smear after a few hours. i use rimmel right now...any eyeliners that won't smudge so bad.

Urban decay's Eye primer potion is the BEST primer! Just a couple dabs on your eyelid and blend all around up to your brow bone. Let it dry a couple mins then apply shadow. This should hel your liner stay on better too.
Reply:they have cheap and avordable oil clensers. you can buy them at eckerds and even keep them in your purse. ill look the name up and get back to you. eyeliners it all depends. pencils usually do justice without smudging. some people even say that liquid is the best. but if you keep your pencil sharpened it should be on directly. no make-up will last so you might have to fix it every once in a while. Hope it at least somewhat helped.

eyeshadow: make sure to put foundation on your eye lids and then use your powder. this acts as the "base".

dont buy the cheeper eyeshadows. they dont last. even M.A.C. gets the crease. Okay, this is going to sound really weird but this is one of the BEST-KEPT BEAUTY SECRETS for those with oily skin: applying Milk of Magnesia to your skin completely sucks up oil. Weird, yes...but it's been a godsent for me!!

I totally understand your problem. I have chronically oily skin, friends have actually told me to wipe my face because it gets so oily :(. Milk of Magnesia has helped me tremendously. My face stays matte through the entire day! You just apply a thin layer of the liquid to your face and rub it in quickly before it dries. You can put it on after you apply your moisturizer or after you cleanse your face (or just put it on before you apply your makeup). It will soak up all the oiliness or excess sweat that may make your face a shiny mess!

You can buy some Milk of Magnesia at any drugstore. Try it out!

When ever I scratch myself from an itch or whatever, the area where I scratched tends to 'swell up', turn a nasty pink colour and I feel a slight burning sensation. It started last summer, I thought it was just an allergy because I have Hayfever, but it wasn't. What is it?

This is normal - your skin is reacting to an injury. Try rubbing an area that itches rather than scratching it.

Reply:Sounds to me like you may have dermagraphism or dermatographia as it is sometimes called. It literally means 'skin writing', and if you get a raised lump on your skin where it has been scratched, and can draw pictures on it then this is probably what you have. It is not 'normal' - it only affects 2-5% of the population. It is an allergic reaction but not to any external stimuli like nuts, prawns etc. Rather the skin is slightly (or sometimes very) allergic to being scratched. There is some useful info on the web and it may be worth chatting to a Doctor if you think this is what you have. Some will prescribe antihistamines for relatively severe cases. I have it and it can be very unpleasant!

i have suffered from something quite similar all my life and i also suffer from atopic exzema and asthma aswell. but find these tablets really do work especially when spring arrive. will do no harm in asking.

also instead of rubbing or scratching try pressing the area that is itching with two fingers for 30 seconds. the itch should go. my doctor suggested this and i tryed it, it worked. problem is i itch everywhere and can't exactly press my entire body together in one go. joke.

Reply:Yes, colder water does work. I take semi-cold showers all the time, and my skin is a lot less dry than it was when I used to take steaming hot ones. Heat dries out your skin. Cold water can also help make your hair healthier and shinier since hot water can dry out your hair as well.

It seems to happen because when she sleeps she tends to sweat alot, even if she's not dressed that warm. She is just a sweaty sleeper for some reason. I think also when she breast feeds lying down the milk sometimes falls down the side of her mouth and around her ears.

I gave her a bath every day and am careful to wash behind her ears but it doesn't seem to be helping.

You should make sure you dry behind her ears very well after her baths and put a little Vaseline on the dry cracked area...lotion or baby oil may really sting. I know if I have cracked hands and use any type of lotion it hurts! I would put the Vaseline on before bed so it has all night to soften and protect her delicate skin. Eucerin and Aquaphor are also great, but I would wait on those until the cracks heal. Good Luck!

Reply:check what detergent you're using to wash her sheets and stuff with, she may have an allergy or sensitive skin. you may have to switch detergents or something. just to be on the safe side, you should probably get it checked out, but it's probably nothing.
Reply:you might be washing her too much actually. Babies skin has natural emollients that keep them moisturized and although you do need to keep that area clean, you also need to keep it moisturized. If it is quite chapped I would put a little smear of neosporin ointment behind her ears when she goes down for the night (so she won't bother it) I say neosporin because it is an antibacterial ointment that will help speed the healing process so that the area will not get infected.

When it's not bad you might want to just try a little vaseline or aquaphor at night to form a barrier against her night sweat. This is all over-the-counter stuff.
Reply:sounds like eczema..baby oil on a qtip should help..don't be too agressive trying to get it to wipe off..can cause more irritation...maybe look at it every other day...usually goes away all by itself...most babies sweat when they sleep..not a worry..

K, here's what you do:

Take a comb w/ fine teeth and brush your eyebrow hair up, but you can still see where your actual eyebrow is. Trim off the top until the look good. Brush to the side!

Use a pair of thin scissors, like nail scissors, and cut straight across the hairs in a staight line. Cut them close to your eyebrow, but not TOO close.

People with darker skin tend to get rickets more easily because their bodies don't absorb a lot of vitamin D from the sun, hence 'activating' their calcium for lack of a better term.

But people with darker skin also have the lowest risk for osteoporosis, which goes directly against logic....

You are correct about the higher prevalence of rickets in dark skinned people living in the same areas as a light skinned person.

However, the rickets connection is about the literal absorption of uv and creation of vitamin D. More pigment=less uv=less vitamin d and ALSO less skin cancer, because uv is related to both.

In the case of Caucasian or Asian race and Osteoporosis, however, you're looking at the founder effect...it's not about vitamin D.

A medium-toned person with one Caucasian or Asian parent has a higher chance of getting Osteoporosis than a person with the exact same amount of pigment and no close relatives of Caucasian or Asian descent.

That being said, if osteoporosis was something that affected ability to breed, instead of usually causing problems after breeding age and it was seriously mitigated by the absorption of vitamin D, you'd see it not be in the darker skin populations, as it would be a breeding hinderance.

With that in mind, remember that the connection of race and osteoporosis is actually based on a correlational study, and one with a very small group size, to boot.

Reply:I do not think you heard correctly in your class. Rickets usually effects people who are exposed to little or no sun light. Dark people do not fall into this category. It is not true that darker skin people are more likely to get rickets. Confirm this by comparing your notes with a class mates.

Everyone's sweat glands are different. Metabolism is different for everyone. Some people produce more oil in their skin than others. Heredity/genes determine what your skin is gonna be like. For example if your parents had bad acne, chances are you will as well. Hope this helps.

I have been suffering from this mysterious itch with no sign of redness or anything. Just that my skin is extremely itchy. I have tried various lotions, antihistamine, olive oil recommended by my skin specialist to no avail. My skin tend to itch only in the evening and it is affecting my sleep.

The best over the counter anti-itch remedies are hydrocortisone and aloe vera. Sometimes a baking soda and water paste can help, too.

You need to see a doctor. I'm not sure what you mean by a "skin specialist." Persistant itching can be a symptom of an underlying issue. It can also be a somatization of a hidden anxiety, especially if it happens only in the evening when you're trying to sleep. Of course, you could also be allergic to something in your bed/bedroom or something you encounter in the evening. Good luck getting un-itchy.

I have acne-prone skin, i get pimples mostly on my forehead, and the apples of my cheeks. I have blackheads on my nose.

However, my skin tends to be extremely dry around my mouth, and on my eyebrows(weird..)

I do that every week and then every month I have a face steam and then put a (frothy) egg white on my face. Then after around about 20-30 minutes I rinse it off with cold water

Under eyes?

I have oily skin, which doens't really bother me anymore b/c I know how to cure it now, and plus people with oily skin tend to age slower! :) But it's really weird though, because even though the rest of my skin is oily, under my eyes tend to be dry. What's up with this??! I normally have to put coco butter under my eyes. It helps a bit, but does anyone have any better suggestions?

How to cure my peeling hands? Someone help me please! It's getting real bad!?

I initially started doing bodybuilding years ago and due to my soft and sensitive skin, the skin on my palms and fingers tend to peel off quite badly after each workout and decided to stopped bodybuilding and concentrate healing my hands and fingers first. But till today, the condition continue to worsen and the skin tend to crack with just the slightest scratch, contact with water and doing simple stuff like tying my shoelaces. My hands and fingers become like a thick mass of dead skin cells forming up like nothing on earth! Often at times, I am easily irritated at the sight of dead skin cells forming on my hands and fingers and tempted to peel or scratch off the dead skin cells off my hands and fingers till they turn reddish! I have avoided washing my hands, reduce the frequencies of baths and also tried using several moisturizing creams and still did not work for me! Could the manual peeling of the skin or nature of my work(construction worker) aggravated my conditon? Pls help me!

Moisturising creams will not work, as you have found out. They contain some of the worst chemicals including such ingredients as Sodium Laureth Sulfates, Parabens (each parabens contain anywhere from 30-60 ingredients each, EDTA is highly toxic and many contain alcohol which in turn dries the skin out. Some even contain formeldahyde they call it by another name (can't think of at the moment).

If you were bodybuilding, can I assume that you were taking chemcials (from one source or another) the chemcials are your worst enemy, even if you were getting products from the health store, many contain some highly nasty ingredients that I would not want to put on my skin let alone injest.

To address the peeling skin on your hands, first use an exfoliant, such as oatmeal or store bought (the green Lava or pumice).

Then use a lotion with Aloe Vera and add a few drops of Vitamin E oil to it. You can find pure Vitamin E oil at drug or health stores, get 28,000 IUs or higher. Use this often.

Continue to bathe and wash your hands, just use the lotion right after.

Also, since you're a construction worker, you may have touched something with an acid on it, which is causing the peeling. Wear your PPE at work.
